Sports injuries

Sport and regular exercise is good for your health, but can sometimes result in injuries.

Sports injuries may be caused by:

  • not warming up properly before exercise
  • using inappropriate equipment or poor technique
  • an accident – such a fall or heavy blow

Sports injuries can result in pain, tenderness, swelling, bruising, restricted movement or stiffness in the affected area during or following activity.

Sports injuries include sprains and strains, back pain and joint pains (affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, foot and heel), bone injuries including fractures, muscle injuries (including hamstring injuries), shin splints, joint dislocations and many more.
